OUR MISSION ABOUT US
Our Mission at Dorcas Place is to instill a sense of community,sharing and caring by provide new and gently used clothing to families that are in need of clothing, shoes,necessities and toiletry items for their babies or school aged children free of charge. Dorcas , also known as Tabitha, was a very special woman in the bible that was a charitable person who made things, especially clothing, for the needy.Dorcas was known for her good works and acts of love for the poor (Acts 9:36); she was much loved in the community. Dorcas is a Greek name meaning “gazelle,” and Tabitha is the Aramaic rendering of the same name. We, at Dorcas Place want to honor such a spirit of love and community by showing other's how to get involved and helping those in need as well as showing those in need they don't have to struggle in silence with a sharing and caring community to lift them up.
Dorcas Place started in the basement of my home as a way to pay it forward. I really wanted to help the many families needing assistance to provide for their children's basic needs. I was determined to do something about it. After a few weeks my garage was overflowing and i knew it was time to expand. I love what I do and the people I meet along the way. I am always looking for ways to improve our program. I already had the vision and the determination to succeed. Now I am Building the vision. We are a Non Profit 501C3 . We are meeting growing needs of the many families in our community that are already receiving our services and the overwhelming need to do more. We are teaching our community to Share and Care by offering a hand up to needy families by following the example of Dorcas. Matthew 25:40 Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.
